Warm and picture perfect Caribbean weather greeted the December 21st inaugural direct flight of American Airlines from Chicago to St. Lucia just as the Windy City experienced another another cold winter.
Tourism Minister Dominic Fedee was on that inaugural flight as the Boeing 737 received a water salute from the St. Lucia Fire Service shortly after touchdown Saturday afternoon at the Hewanorra International Airport.
Just about four hours earlier passengers had received a St. Lucia welcome as they boarded their flight, treated to breakfast, live performances and St. Lucia keepsakes.
The weekly Saturday direct flight from Chicago will boost already strong visitor arrivals to St. Lucia. There were five flights from American Airlines originating in different parts of the United States on the day of the inaugural Chicago direct flight.
On December 21st the Hewanorra International Airport also welcomed seven other international flights from the United States, Canada and Europe.
