BOOK FAIR OPENS FOR NOBEL LAUREATE FESTIVAL
Castries, Saint Lucia, Thursday January 16, 2020. – Saint Lucia and Saint Lucians around the world, will celebrate the birth anniversary of the island’s two Nobel Laureates; Sirs Arthur Lewis and Derek Walcott on January 23rd.
Nobel Laureate Festival is held during the month of January and recognizes the extraordinary contributions of these exemplary nationals while highlighting the work of other notable Saint Lucians in varying fields of endeavour. A number of organizations have joined in the festivities to honour the Laureates and encourage excellence in the citizenry.
On Sunday 19th January, 758Books at the Gablewoods Mall in Sunny Acres will open its doors to the public from 4:00 p.m. for a Book Fair which will feature a number of Saint Lucian authors. The published works of playwrights, poets as well as fiction and non-fiction writers will be showcased in what is expected to be a riveting display of literary brilliance.
For the duration of the fair, the public will engage with authors in open one-on-one interactions. This will provide both writers and readers with opportunities to motivate and inspire. Additionally, visitors to the book showcase, particularly budding writers and students will participate in a series of sessions aimed at encouraging public speaking as a significant step towards improving communication and critical thinking skills, boosting confidence, career advancement as well as expanding one’s professional network.
About the venue
Opened in 2014 with the view to encourage an appreciation for literature in Saint Lucia, 758 Books aims to become a cultural hub which promotes “living literature”.
