Caribbean Business Report for 6th January 2020

Our photos and stories will also be uploaded to – its the first report for 2020 – the CBR is a weekly business e-newsletter.

The video version of the Caribbean Business Report will also debut this week, via the Calabash TV YouTube and Facebook pages. We’re looking for your support for his venture and other projects we will be engage in for 2020, the year of exciting opportunities.

I know we’re starting off on the brink of a war, but let’s hope – common sense reigns and lessens the appetite for escalation.

Good news  – St. Lucian Kimani Melius, from Boguis, is leading the West Indies Under-19 Cricket team in the ICC One Day World Cup in South Africa. We’re in a tough group with Australia and England -but there is a burning desire to deliver on the promise of many years, so let’s look forward to that trophy visiting the Boguis Primary School before Independence Day.
Its also an Olympic Leap Year -so tons of expectations. Our hope is that Levern Spencer makes it the biggest year of our sport lives as an independent nation and that Juliana Alfred and Albert Reynolds follow Levern’s well worn out path.

And there is Article 164 – [no its not a movie] – its a real thing. I know there are efforts by the Ministry of Commerce to get a conversation going, but it is going to take some commitment as well from business organisations and their members to get a handle on it, or else we lose the grip, our footing and the plot. Here is an interesting article from the Jamaica Gleaner. Who really knows about Article 164? I am also looking for interviewees who can discuss Article 164 and its real implications and opportunities for business and the general public. I can be reached at or through this email.
