The most renowned and accomplished Caribbean hotelier was laid to rest this past week-end. Gordon Butch Stewart born in Kingston Jamaica July 6th 1941 founded Sandals Resorts International, the leading hotel chain in the Caribbean.
He was also responsible for Beaches Resorts. His son Adam described his father as a “gifted entrepreneur”, a “marketing genius,” a “talented showman,” and “a dreamer who could dream bigger and better than anyone.”
Tributes have poured in from around the world including the Government of Saint Lucia and the The Saint Lucia Hospitality & Tourism Association (SLHTA).
Stewart founded Sandals in 1981. SRI currently owns fifteen all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean. In Saint Lucia, Sandals owns four properties: Sandals Grande St. Lucian Spa & Beach Resort, Sandals Halcyon Beach Resort, Sandals Regency Golf Resort & Spa, and Sandals Golf & Country Club.
Butch Stewart was 79.
