The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) in St. Vincent and the Grenadines recently received twenty-three water tanks from the Saint Lucia business operation of the CIBC FirstCaribbean.
The consignment of water tanks form part of the bank’s response in support of the La Soufriere volcanic eruption relief efforts. They followed an earlier consignment of bottled water dispatched in April.
In the wake of the initial series of eruptions of the La Soufriere volcano in early April, Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves issued a call for water and water storage containers when it became clear that the island’s water supply was becoming compromised by volcanic ash.
Noting that the impact of the water challenges in St. Vincent and the Grenadines were being felt at all levels of the society, CIBC Country Head Nigel Ollivierre said the bank sought to route the contribution through NEMO to ensure that they reached areas of greatest need.
