The St Lucia Employers Federation was recently visited by their Geneva based ‘International Organisation of Employers’ Representative (IOE) Mr. Matthias Thorns.
Mr. Thorns who is Deputy General Secretary of Employers world headquarters with responsibility for Caribbean Employers Organisations, met with the St Lucia Employers Federation Board at their L’Anse Road Secretariat in Castries last week.
Among matters addressed included updates on International Labour Standards (ILS); Legal Tripartite Instruments which set out the basic principles and Rights at Work; Functions of the ILO Supervising machinery; Responsible Business/Employers Conduct and the United Nations Global Compact on ‘the Future of Work’.
The meeting was chaired by local Employers Federation President, Mr. Vern Gill, who was himself part of a regional delegation invited to join some 150 Employers Organisations from around the world at Geneva Switzerland later this month.
Meanwhile, the St Lucia Employers Federation has been conducting its own internal Strategic Planning exercises convened at Soufriere and Castries, in collaboration with the ILO Caribbean Office in Trinidad, as the multi sectoral Organisation prepares to address ‘the future of Work’, while facilitating maintenance of Industrial Peace’ in a changing Labour Market environment across Saint Lucia and beyond.
