An invention by a fisherman and school dropout from Laborie has won the GET IN THE RING St. Lucia 2020 business ideas pitching competition.
Laura Jn Pierre pitched on behalf of Karlis Noel, engineer and inventor of the Life Cube Desalinator. It is a solar powered unit which treats seawater, rendering the Brine, a by-product of the desalination process, harmless.
That technology is being used as far away as the Pacific. It was developed under the company name Invictus.
Laura Jn. Pierre out-pitched six other finalists to win the right to represent St. Lucia at a Global Meet-up in Canada in February 2020.
The top three in the competition were Sindiwe Sealy of Ewitaj, Laura Jn. Pierre of InVictus and Jade Hutchinson of Noah Energy.
GET IN THE RING is organised by the St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce through the Youth Business Trust and Junior Achievement St. Lucia as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week.
The competition was made possible through the support of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Investment, Enterprise Development and Consumer Affairs, Invest Saint Lucia, the Savings Bank Foundation for International Cooperation, 1st National Bank St. Lucia Limited, Digicel St. Lucia and All Biz Limited and Calabash TV.
