In March of 2020, Saint Lucia Distillers launched a unique international competition designed to encourage mixologist and bartenders to create their own version of spiced rum.
Obviously the Covid-19 virus caused delays and presented challenges for the competetion but they sucessfully adapted and the winners were selected by the expert panel of eight judges.
The international winners were selected last month and the Saint Lucian winner was just announced this past week.
All contestants were given one month to create their special “Spice Lab Blend”, along with an introductory video, to officially submit their entry for review by the expert panel of eight judges.
Despite the challenges and delays caused by Covid-19, the international “Spice Lab” competition winners were selected last month, and the Saint Lucia winner was confirmed at year’s end.
Last week all the Saint Lucian finalist were invited to the Distillery for a brief ceremony where the winner of the 2020 “Spice Lab” competition was unveiled. The Saint Luca winner was Silas Celestine of Castries.
The two international winners will travel to Saint Lucia to team up with Silas Celestine, the Saint Lucia winner where the three of them will work directly with the Chairman’s Reserve master blender and production team in the “Spice Lab” to together create a unique, locally inspired product, which will be sold worldwide.
