SRDF holds stakeholder meeting in response to crime surge

The Soufriere Regional Development Foundation (SRDF) held a stakeholders meeting at the organization’s boardroom on Wednesday, October 23rd, 2019.

The purpose of the meeting was to strategically addressing the recent crime surge that threatens to envelope the town— particularly the loss of two young lives due to gun violence.

Chairing the meeting was Mr. Johnson Simon, Community & Youth Development of the SRDF who expressed alarm at the seemingly unending violence that had, in quick succession, claimed the lives of innocent persons.

In response the representative of the Royal St. Lucia Police Force’s Criminal Investigation Department, Mr. Marbert Octave placed the current crime situation into context and suggested possible solutions.

The meeting concluded after a plan had emerged to hold an Anti-Violence March and Town Hall meeting, where a properly laid out plan would be formulated to effectively confront the deteriorating situation.
